What’s the opportunity?

As the Director of Engineering at Borealis AI, you will lead the engineering team in an organization that delivers artificial intelligence-based products for the financial services industry.  You will create tools and infrastructure that enable artificial intelligence research and product development, including providing a high-quality machine learning environment, ensuring access to data, rapid, reproducible experimentation, and effective model deployment and scaling.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Lead our engineering organization, responsible for all aspects of Borealis AI’s engineering activities including infrastructure, data management, machine learning platforms, and software development;
  • To Partner with RBC business and infrastructure stakeholders to align Borealis AI practices;
  • To work closely with Borealis AI’s product, business and research functions to ensure software products are architected, designed and delivered according to plan. Sets strategic engineering goals and manages the teams through execution;
  • To provide engineering guidance and support for machine learning feasibility studies and product roadmaps;
  • To Drive best engineering practices across Borealis AI’s teams.  Provides technical leadership and mentorship. Enables and empowers their team to own decisions;
  • To Implement an effective organizational structure to enable accountability and scalability.  Defines metrics to measure and manage success and failures;
  • To Recruit and develop a high-performing engineering organization according to Borealis AI’s values as we continue to scale in 2020.

You’re our ideal candidate if you have:

  • Have a degree in Computer Science or a related technical field;
  • Have 10+ years of relevant engineering experience;
  • Have 5+ years experience building and mentoring high performing engineers in teams of 15-30 +;
  • Have exceptional communication and leadership skills;
  • Have a track record of solving complex problems and designing strategies for delivery of AI products.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with data processing at scale, containerization, and machine learning research and development (Hadoop, Airflow, Spark, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
